Borg Al Arab Airport
is currently averaging eight to ten flights per day.
“The reason that the government decided to open this
airport in the first place is to attract business
and A-class tourists,” he says.
The airport is
in the midst of an expansion to handle the growing
traffic. A new terminal and runways are expected to
be completed by June 2009, increasing the airport’s
capacity to 1000 passengers per hour. “By the end of
the project, we will also have 10 parking spots for
cargo planes, the capacity to receive cargo planes,
and four passenger tubes. This translates into 1.5
million passengers a year,” added Khalaf. |

infrastructure and with the rising capacity and
quality of hotel rooms of Alexandria, International
carriers such as British Airways, Lufthansa and
Emirates Air have added direct service to Borg Al
Arab International Airport, a privately managed
airport serving Alexandria and the North Coast.
