The Egyptian resort of Sharm El Sheikh has been labeled as the World’s Leading Dive Destination at the 14th World Travel Awards. The annual gala ceremony was held at the Caribbean Island of the Turks and Caicos, and it is considered the world’s most comprehensive travel awards ceremony, with trophies awarded in all areas of the industry.
Thousands of votes each year are registered online at the official World Travel Awards website, with most of the leading travel internet sites offering additional online voting facilities. Some 167,000 tourism professionals from over 190 countries voted for the awards which have been described by the Wall Street Journal as “the travel industry’s equivalent of the Oscars”. The event is highly regarded and well-established as a forum that brings together all areas of travel and tourism in recognition of their achievements.
