EgyptAir announced on the 19th of February, 2008, that is has exercised six purchase options for Embraer E170 regional jets. The original contract, covering six firm orders and six options, was announced in Sep- 06. The total value of the new agreement is USD189 million, at list prices.
The aircraft will be deployed with EgyptAir’s regional subsidiary, EgyptAir Express. Deliveries are scheduled to commence from 2009. The carrier’s E170s will be configured in a single-class layout, with 76 leather seats. It will be deployed on the carrier’s primary and secondary routes, and will be fully integrated with domestic and regional markets.
The E170 is the first aircraft of the four-member EJets family, and entered revenue service in March 2004. As of the 31st of December, 2007, the E170/190 E-Jet family had logged 764 firm orders and 786 options from more than 40 customers in 25 countries on five continents, and had surpassed 1.2 million flight hours.
