The
F2000 Championship took place this year from
the 17th to the 19th of April, 2008, in Port
Ghalib – Marsa Alam, after the promoters of
Continental F2000 Championship first
inaugurated the sport in Fujairah, UAE.
Formula World Sports, organizers of the
powerboat championships, had also unveiled
Bahrain, Oman and Egypt as the other Middle
East venues for the competition. Altogether
18 boats from 12 nations will be vying for
valuable points as well as a share of the
US$30,000 prize money.
The UAE is one of the effective countries in
all local and international activities and
is regarded as the leading center for speed
races, particularly Formula 1 and Formula 2
races. After looking after the distinguished
marine nature, the government focused on
holding and hosting international marine
championship.
Formula races started at the same time as
the rest of speed sports in the UAE, and
attracted the attention of the youth,
particularly after the world championship in
Abu Dhabi in 1992, which saw the
participation of the elite professionals
from all over the world, and was listed in
the international federation's annual
agenda. This encouraged the UAE youth to be
part of such competitions and help enhance
the UAE's interest in training its crews in
this sport.
